Solar Install
This headline has been a number of years in the making. In November 2012 with Spa Solar of Droitwich, we installed an 8kw Solar Panel array on our barn to supplement our power usage on the farm. Making use of government-backed feed-in tariff incentive.
EV Chargepoint Installed
In March 2019 we installed our first EV Chargepoint using smart technology giving the option to only charge when surplus energy is being produced. This was part-funded through the EV infrastructure grant.
Sunny Boy Home Manager Install
Working with Profit Energy of Hereford, we wanted to explore the viability of battery storage, so installed a monitoring device to measure the surplus of solar energy generated over our imported grid energy. This would enable us to appropriately size the battery requirement and identify if the cost outlay of battery storage would be worth the upfront investment.
Russia Invades Ukraine
Following the invasion of Ukrane in 2022, Global energy markets became uncertain and energy prices stored at unpresidented levels.
Oaks Barn Farm Gets Approval From Western Power
Again working with Pro-Fit Energy, we sobmit a plan for the install for 10Kw of Sunny Boy storage. This system is AC connected with a separate inverter and would require permission from the Western Power.
It also includes the ability to be off-grid during a power cut.
The system will allow us to predict solar generation, for the following day allowing us to charge batteries on economy 7 where power generation is predicted as low.
Simply put buying our power at an off-peak rate, using battery during peak rate, together with the obvious benefits of storing solar energy, and reducing our power export for self-use.
Green Market Place
We are extremely proud of our green credentials at Oaks Barn Farm, including biomass heating, managing our in-house laundry for our guest accommodation, and rainwater harvesting for livestock to name but a few, going forward a growing number of guests are now booking with us based on the values that booking a stay with oaks barn farm will not cost the earth.
