Its early morning on the farm and I’ve just cracked the window open to listen to our resident owl calling in the night sky, the November air is crisp and so to are the sounds carried at this time of year with such clarity as the crisp air upon which they travel.
I have just responded to a message from @sallydmarshall, a recent follower of @oaksbarnfarm on Twitter, yesterday Sally asked what are the biggest challenges facing your business, I replied time, not because we don’t make best use of it but because we realise that this is a finite resource, and the time we use we will never see again.
Lack of time is about task management. Can you prioritise and delegate some of the tasks which need to be done?
Sometimes applying a simple solution can resolve a complex problem, time and how we spend it is a prescious gift and once spent it cannot be re-spent.
This weekend we enjoyed a family coming together on the farm from the Isle of Man, recent Grand Parents you could see the love in their eyes for the chance they had of enjoying their time spent in introducing the little ones to the animals on the farm.
Sunday saw the ground works starting for our green house, Dan and his cousin Josh together with Joe Wood and Lydia Bailey were all engaged in removing the topsoil and levelling the site ready for the footing pour. The project is part of our continued work With Norton College, providing its students with practical work experience in horticulture and animal husbandry, which means growing stuff and cleaning out the pig pen.
Most days spent on the farm push a dream forward, some days more than others but some days see the realisation of dreams and those days are really special. It’s just 3 weeks since our tup went into our ewes, by now each should be in lamb representing new life come March, where we will be busy with Lambing and ensuring that each new life has the best possible start to ensure its survival.
Whilst it is healthy to dream big, it is easy to overlook the journey and the significant experiences and fun that each step holds.
