Behind The Scenes Running a Family Farm Stay

What a week, life working in the hospitality sector running our self-catering business on our family farm sounds idyllic, the reality is not without hard work and continued attention to detail.

In just one week we have managed 7 property changeovers managing 21 full property cleans, each having 2 bathrooms 3 bedrooms, and dining areas to clean and sanitize between each set of guests. this has resulted in 70 sets of beds being made and 70 sets of bedding and towels washed to 60 degrees and being dried in readiness for next guests arriving.

7 hot tubs have been emptied of 7,000 liters of water, cleaned and refilled with a further 7,000 liters of water, and heated to 38.5 degrees, thankfully through our solar panels, as the sun has been favorable this month.

With a little time to spare we spent half a day sanding our metal gates and painting them and our post box.

Dan has been full-on with his slurry irrigation business, delivering valuable nitrates back to the soil.

Our hot tubs are checked daily for salt content ph and TDS levels, each is cleaned so that adds up to 21 quality inspections.

8 bird feeders have been filled twice this week, we have harvested chilies, tomatoes beans, and potatoes this week and made some amazing pumpkin and squash soup, and made 2 shepherd’s pies and one further batch of lamb stew from our own lamb of course.

We have delivered a pizza, evening for 13 guests using our commercial pizza oven all had an amazing time producing some quality Pizza’s.

In addition, we have taken 4 future bookings this week and processed a further 7 enquiries.

Come Dine With Me Paralympic Special

This week each night at 5 pm our Farm has been on Come Dine With me where the Coach House, The Granary, and The Main Farm House were used to host a Paralympic Special Ahead of this year’s Games.
