Following the latest Government Announcement for the easing of lockdown restrictions, it is clear that there are no indications on the lifting of restrictions for family holidays to UK destinations with the earliest date being the 4th July 2020 (though this is still speculative).
The 15th of June will see us through 12 weeks of lockdown if there is to be any lifting of restrictions this summer the demand for UK based holidays will be high.
UK Holiday Considerations
Self-catering properties are best placed to provide a safe environment for your family holiday for the following reasons:
- Most B&B provisions will not be able to offer Social distancing measures due to shared corridors, dining areas, and the fact that most operate out of the proprietor’s home.
- Hotels; many of the larger hotel groups are looking for ways to schedule dining to enable social distancing and booth type seating areas, the self-service buffet for the short to long term will be a thing of the past.
- Camping and Caravan Sites; sites are working on strategies for business reopening, however innovative ways of managing on-site shared facilities may limit capacity without significant investment in infrastructure, for example, the shower and toilet facilities.
- Please be aware that new travel insurance policies will not cover COVID-19 cancellations, whilst existing policies may cover cancellations where the booking pre-dates the 23rd March lockdown.
- Self Catering properties that have no reliance on any shared facilities and will be in high demand. Check with the provider on their enhanced cleaning and safeguarding measures.
