Historically Sage was used as a way to cleanse your house from negative energy through smudging – burning of dried sage to cleanse your home from unwanted spirits.
Not having any spirits other than those in the cupboard, our need is indeed positive, as we are drying the Sage for inclusion in our next batch of sausage.
Incidentally the item to the left is dried ginger and not a pin doll.
As for witches, I understand they were and indeed are not all bad.
