Cutting Your Food Waste

On a recent holiday in Egypt, at Sunrise all inclusive resort I was impressed at the Re purposed leftover foods, fish soup was made from the previous nights fish and crab meat, croutons and bread from breakfast was seasoned and dried for soup accompaniment.

So worldwide we have a growing population, a growing homeless problem and in the domestic front we turn fertile growing land into solar farms and housing estates.

We should all look to do more, only put on your plate what you need to eat. Cook with portion size in mind, and adopt a common sense approach to sell by dates.

We have sheep and pigs and chickens on our farm, to survive they need water food shelter and time. To provide all of the above fuel is required to harvest and deliver so the true cost of leaving meat on your plate is far greater than its actual cost to you.

Look for ways to be creative with leftovers, a lamb curry will always taste better 2nd time round.

Vegetable waste is fed to our pigs chickens and sheep on the farm and their diet is enhanced by it.

Offal is cooked up and fed to our cat and dog and during the winter time we rarely use our stove but instead cook on our log burner.

If you have the space to grow then do so, if you have more space then plant a tree.

We are positively encouraged when we see our guests taking their food waste to our livestock, hoping in some way we have influenced a change for the better.

Tell us about the changes you are making for a better tomorrow.
