Visit Compton Verney Warwickshire

Following a presentation to Shakespeare’s England 2 weeks ago, we have been asked by Emily Medcraft (Front of House Manager) to feature “This Stunning Hidden Treasure”, as a destination of choice for our guests staying on the Farm.

Until the early twentieth century Compton Verney was home to the Verney or Willoughby de Broke family. In the twentieth century the house and lands changed hands a number of times before eventually falling derelict, with parts of the land and house being sold off.

In 1993, however, the house was rescued by the Compton Verney House Trust, who purchased the house and immediate grounds thanks to a generous grant from the Peter Moores Foundation. The extensive building programme gave it a new life as an art gallery. The building programme started by conserving the Georgian Mansion and the adjacent servants buildings (now the Learning Centre). Then a contemporary extension between the two was created, allowing the whole building to be accessed from one entry point.
